Stone sculpture ‘’Jonah and the Whale’’ is inspired by the Biblical story of Jonah and the Whale. In the story, God orders Jonah to inform the people of Nineveh that their sinful city is to be destroyed soon. Jonah doesn’t dare to do so and flees by a ship. God punishes Jonah by arranging a heavy storm, during which the crew throws Jonah overboard and a whale eats him. While in the belly of the whale, Jonah asks God for mercy regretfully. Finally after three days, the whale spits him out and Jonah reaches land safely, where he obeys God’s earlier order anyway.
