Bronze sculpture ”Plato and Aristoteles” is a relief of the two great Greek philosophers, made after the centre part of Rafaël’s famous fresco, The School of Athens. Rafaël painted this fresco in 1510-1511 for the library of Pope Julius II. Plato points his finger upwards to the realm of thoughts, while holding the book Timaeus in his other hand. Aristoteles gestures downwards to the earth, which we can see and from which we can learn. He carries the book Ethica, in which he advocates that happiness is increased by being intellectually active. He has also created the Politica writings.
